Germany has faced very dissapointing results in the past few years at Eurovision. This should change, that’s why NDR came with a brand new concept to select Germanys entrant for Lisbon!
Germanys entrant will be selected by the German public, an Europe-Panel consisting of 100 people and an international expert jury crew. The Europe-Panel represents the music taste of Europe in the best possible way. They will be selected on social media, they will decide about the pre-selection of the artist and on the final act. You can’t apply to be an expert jury unfortunately. The international juries consisting of 20-25 juries are people who have experiences with Eurovision in the past: they were jury members of the national selection in their respective countries and also were part of the jury who voted at the Eurovision final. They will announce their points in the German national selection just like in Eurovision.
Thomas Schreiber, ARD Coordinator entertainment stated: “We made very intensive discussions in the past months, tested everything and got external advices and criticism. Our aim is a radical new beginning where everything should be different than in the past years. We are thrilled by our partners with whom we created the concept. We want to start the new beginning for Germany with the right mixture of passion, understanding and analysis. Our aim is to systematically consider the international music taste of the public and the international musical competence from the first candidate selection until the national final to be internationally recognizable, more edgy and more successful. We will introduce and promote our new concept to the creative people in the music business and to the fans so that Germany can support it.”
Interested artists to represent Germany at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest can apply online (click here) until 6th November 2017 12:00 CET. The 20 shortlisted candidates for the national final (from the applications, suggestions and direct contact from the NDR, composers, producers and record companies) will be chosen from the Europe-Panel. These 20 candidates will have the opportunity to work with NDR in the studio to judge their singing and stage presence. From these 20 candidates the Euro-Panel and the international juries will chose the 5 acts for the national final who will battle for the golden ticket to Lisbon. Meanwhile NDR will work with composers, producers and labels from different genres to choose an individual song which fits to the respective singer and works on the stage performance.
More details will be revealed in due course.
