The interview season on EurovisionHeadline continues! We did an interview with this years Icelandic representative Ari Olafsson where we talked about his musical experiences in the past and about his upcoming Eurovision attent in Lisbon and many more.
1- Ari you are 19 years old and therefore the youngest contestant at this years competition. How do you feel about that? Does that put extra pressure on you?
No not at all, i think it doesnt put any pressure at all, if anything im happy to be the youngest contestant.
2- You already started with singing at a very young age. Tell us, how did you start with music? Were there any inspiring people to take you to the music business?
I have been singing all my life, but at age 11 i landed a role as Oliver Twist at the National Theater of Iceland and the ball kept on rolling after that. I think the people who inspired me the most were Stevie Wonder and George Michael and my family.
3- Selma Björnsdóttir discovered you and you got a lead role in the musical „Oliver!” at the
national theatre of Iceland when you were just 11 years old. Selma participated at Eurovision
in 1999 and in 2005. Did she gave you any advice for Eurovision and do you think that your
experiences in theatre helped you throughout your music career?
I talked to her and we talked for some time about enjoying every moment and making the best of everything cause this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
4- You acted in several theatres throughout Iceland. How do you combine acting with singing? Is it difficult for you to fulfil both jobs?
Well its a talent to do musicals but its not difficult if you practice hard and give all you got.
5- You also participated at The Voice of Iceland in 2015. How did this journey affect your career? What did you learn from these experiences?
I learned alot and it helped me alot expecially as a performer.
6- You got a lot of negative reactions after your emotional reaction after winning the national
final. In the end we are all humans and we all get emotional from time to time. What
happened after you won? Can you tell us why you became so emotional?
I did not notice many negative reactions and i really dont read any negative stuff i just saw all the positive comments and i really loved that people came together and said that we should express our emotions. The reason why i cried tears of joy was because i was so happy with my performance and the love that i received from the audience was just overwhelming.
7- Your Eurovision song „Our Choice” is a ballad full with emotions. How will you implement
these emotions in your performance in Lisbon? Can you give us some details about your
staging in Lisbon?
Yes it is a powerballad full of emotions and i will implement on those emotions, but the staging in Lisbon we are working on.
8- So what is next for Ari? How do you prepare yourself for Eurovision? Will we see you at any
Yes i will be in Amsterdam, London and Israel and i will just keep on practicing and try to top myself everytime.
